An independent voice for the capital.
Wellington City News has reported on Te Whanganui-a-Tara continuously since 1882. We cover the capital's politics, climate, transport, arts, food and sport — and the people who make all of it happen.
We are owned by our staff. We accept no political or commercial donations. Our newsroom is based on Cuba Street and our reporters live, work, vote and sometimes lose their bus passes in the suburbs they cover.
We believe a city is built as much by its local paper as by its council, and we take that seriously. We file daily on the stories that shape life in Wellington — from the swell on the south coast to the bill at the back of a Te Aro bar.
